The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today announced that its six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has decided to keep the policy repo rate unchanged at 6.50%. The decision, taken by a majority vote, reflects the central bank's continued focus on bringing retail inflation durably down to the 4% target.
The Standing Deposit Facility (SDF) rate remains at 6.25% and the Marginal Standing Facility (MSF) rate at 6.75%. The RBI retained its GDP growth projection while flagging risks from global commodity prices and an uneven monsoon.
Governor's statement emphasised that monetary policy will remain actively disinflationary, and that liquidity conditions would be managed nimbly through the RBI's toolkit.
